Integrated Twi and Farefare, or a Modern-day Metu Neter Tutorial
By using a research-based approach to teaching that presents integrated concepts in highly connected and contextualized modules, Kwame Adapa has succeeded in achieving the near impossible, which is to teach Twi the way he and other native speakers understand and think in the language. In this tutorial, you will learn to think in Twi almost as if you were using the language like a native speaker. Learn Twi in a way that the Twi language will go directly into the root of your very being. Bringing forth his decades of experience in education research, instruction and in designing curricula, Kwame has put together a tutorial that not only gives an insider’s view of Twi grammar and syntax. He also succeeds in further proving that Twi, and in fact other Akan and Gur languages are themselves derivatives of the more ancient languages coming out of the Nile valley region.

Selected Proverbs from the Twi language
Through the guidance of spirit, Kwame Adapa was able to distill over 3,600 ancient Twi proverbs down to fewer than 100, which together cover ALL aspects of the secular, spiritual, psychological and traditional facets of the culture of the Twi speaking peoples of West Africa. Kwame was further guided to extensively comment in English on each one of these selected proverbs handed down by the ancestors to the present generation, a collection which is in every way a modern-day rendition of the Ma’at of Ancient Kemet.
The proverbs featuring in this tutorial are selected from the book titled A collection of three thousand and six hundred Tshi proverbs in use among the Neroes of the Gold Coast speaking the Asante and Fante Language, collected together with their variations, and alphabetically arranged by the Reverend J. G. Christaller, late Missionary in Akuapem and Akem. The collection was first printed in 1879 and as such, it represents sayings among the Twi and Fante speaking peoples of what is now Ghana, from ancient times up until the late 19th century.
Although there are several collections of Akan proverbs available today, such as the collection Robert Sutherland Rattray put together during his time among the Akan Asante, Kwame has been particularly drawn to Christaller’s collection of proverbs first and foremost because he collected them from among not just one Akan group, but rather several, including the Akem, Akuapem, Fante, Asante, and Brong.
In this tutorial, although Kwame gives some commentary on each of these proverbs, their meanings and applications extend far past the commentaries. It is thus onto the listener to meditate on these proverbs and on the key messages they are transmitting, so that they can apply those messages in many different ways to their own life circumstances. As black people, this is our form of enlightenment. The best way to work through these proverbs is to listen to them again and again. Write them down if need be, as well as their meanings.
